Planning an Outdoor Party or Barbecue?

Many of us will spend lot s of time outdoors during the summer  having backyard or beach barbecues with family and friends. And to make your BBQ a great celebration it has to be more than just about the food. It doesn’t have to be a costly extravagant affair, but putting a little thought into the barbecue party supplies like decorations, balloons, party favors, supplies, and activities ahead of time will ensure that you have successful party and a great time!

Here are some things you will need to plan for:

Food

To make it simple, consider turning the day into a potluck with everyone bringing their favorite outdoor dish to share, or you supply the meat and everyone brings a side-dish. Hamburgers and hotdogs are traditional, but chicken or even steak work well for small gatherings. Don’t forget the condiments! Keep food that needs refrigeration in coolers on ice to decrease any chance of someone getting sick.

A Grill

Whether your own backyard grill or one provided at a beach or park, be sure you know how it operates, or what you will need. A busy Labor Day BBQ is not the right time to start experimenting. Be sure your gas grill tank is filled with gas, or that you have enough charcoal and lighter fluid on hand for a charcoal grill.

Tableware

No one wants to be doing dishes on Labor Day! Purchase tableware (plates, napkins, and plastic cutlery) that is not only functional, and easy, but is fun and in the spirit of the day with a great BBQ theme, whether a backyard, beach, or boating BBQ! Don’t forget to include plastic table covers.

Drinks

Although traditionally a cooler full of canned soda and bottles of beer and water is the norm, consider serving pitchers of iced tea, lemonade, juice and water and reduce waste, and for a “green” idea, purchase paper cups and have everyone write their name on them for re-use. If you do have cans and bottles provide clearly marked recycling bins to keep the party Eco-friendly.

Consider setting up a tent in the yard for shade, and make sure there are bathrooms nearby. Be prepared for severe weather and have an alternative plan. All in all, make this Labor Day the end of summer celebration for all your family and friends.

Barbecues also make fun couples bridal showers!  Check it out on our sister site, ForBrideandBaby.com.
